Since 1912, the Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering has been making historical discoveries and fundamental contributions to society. From groundbreaking research in wind engineering, computational medicine, and nano-scale drug delivery systems to human language technology and surgical robotics, faculty and students at Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering are tackling some of the most complex and challenging problems the world faces today. The Whiting School of Engineering’s mission is to (1) provide an outstanding engineering education that is innovative, rigorous, and relevant, and that prepares its graduates to be 21st century leaders; (2) advance the boundaries of engineering inquiry through research and the creation and dissemination of knowledge that improve the well-being of society; and (3) solve important societal problems through translational activities. WSE aims to be a driving force in transforming society as a leader in engineering education, through the creation and dissemination of knowledge, and activities that improve the human condition.

The Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering values a scholarly, collaborative and entrepreneurial environment in which innovation, creativity, risk-taking, and the ethical practice and applications of engineering and technology are paramount. WSE understands and appreciates both the fundamentals of engineering and the creation and dissemination of transformative knowledge. The members' intellectual agility and capacity to draw upon their wide range of technical and non-technical skills and abilities to solve societal problems is what provides for it's highly esteemed diverse and inclusive community. In all its activities, the Whiting School of Engineering identifies and strengthens its areas of excellence and leverages its competitive advantages to ensure the school's continued leadership in engineering education, research and translation. The Whiting School provides its faculty and students with the resources necessary to pursue promising areas of inquiry where the school has clear potential to address significant societal problems and emerges as a thought leader. Through it all, the Whiting School of Engineering's efforts are in support of the Johns Hopkins University mission: to educate its students and cultivate their capacity for lifelong learning, to foster independent and original research, and to bring the benefits of discovery to the world.
